Cab Operated, Dockside Gantry Bucket Crane with Boom Hoist

Problem

A large sugar company was using a very old crane with outdated wound rotor motor controls to unload sugar cane from ships/barges and deposit it onto a conveyor system feeding the factory.

A significant amount of slack cable existed during the hold, close and racking process, which resulted in weekly maintenance of the cables.

Solution

  • A crane controls upgrade to adjustable frequency drive technology with squirrel cage, inverter duty motors.

  • Magnetek’s hoist synchronization and bucket software helped reduce the slack cable present during the hold and close operation, which reduced the maintenance required on the system.

Magnetek Products

  • IMPULSE® VG+ Series 2 Vector Drives on the hold and close motions

  • IMPULSE® G+ Series 2 Adjustable Frequency Drives on the rack, gantry and boom hoist motions

  • Hoist Synchronization Software

  • Bucket Software
